Harvey's Gang!

Hey Guys,

Happy New Year to you all!

I haven't made any new years resolutions. I'm terrible at keeping them and deciding what my plan of action for the new year is going to be. So this year there is no resolutions.

However . . . .

Today I was fortunate enough to visit the Pathology Labs at Worthing Hospital, West Sussex and take a look around and learn a little bit about the hard work that they do there. Worthing Hospital is where 'Harvey's Gang' all started. Harvey was a child who had leukaemia and was curious about where his blood was blood was taken to. The children's ward enquired about visiting the laboratory and so he did. He was given a lab coat and a name badge with 'trainee scientist' on it to wear around the lab. Harvey enjoyed it and was interested in all the things they did there. Harvey sadly died a year later.

To honour Harvey's memory Worthing Hospital started Harvey's Gang. This is where ill children are able to come around the lab as Harvey did and explore what happens to blood. They are given a lab coat, badge and certificate at the end.

On November 6th 2014, Worthing Hospital the worlds first ORTHO Vision Analyser blood grouping machine and in honour of Harvey, the machine is named after him. The machines manufacturers pledged to name the first 100 machines sold in Europe, Middle East and Africa after patients, the first being Harvey.

I am honoured to do my small part for Harvey's Gang and have written and started a blog for Harveys gang which I shall post below. Please take a look at their facebook page (again I'll list below and give it a like.)
I will also link in a YouTube video explaining more about Harvey's Gang.
