I was strolling through Waterstones, when the red pages of this book stood out to me. After reading the blurb of this book, I came to the conclusion that this was going to be a book I needed to read.
The Quick by Lauren Owen
Blurb
You are about to discover the secrets of The Quick.
But first you must travel to Victorian Yorkshire, and there, on a remote country estate, meet a brother and sister alone in the world and bound by tragedy.
In time, you will enter the rooms of London's mysterious Aegolius Club- a society of some of the richest, most powerful men in fin-de-siecle England.
And at some point - we cannot say when- these worlds will collide.
It is then, and only then, that a new world emerges, one of romances, adventure and the most delicious of horrors- and the secrets of The Quick are revealed.
My View
This book is a must read. Well as I started it, I found it hard to put down. In the first part of the story, I felt sympathy towards James and Charlotte and the more I read, the more I wanted to find out what happens in the story. Not only that but I wanted to find out about James and the mystery of his disappearance. I wanted to know about The Quick and the mystery of The Aegolius club.
The story is divided into four sections, with diary entries and different points of view. I honestly found it hard to put down and when I did, I needed to know what was going to happen next. If your into dark Victorian novels, this is one for you! I definitely recommend this book for people who do enjoy mysterious novels!
This book is also part of the Waterstones Book Club.
