Reminiscing Rome

Reminiscing Rome

I had never travelled abroad until I went to Rome on a little four day trip to Rome with my two best friends and my fiance back in 2016. I just happened to be scrolling through my facebook photos and came across our Rome holiday snaps. I loved this trip!

It happened to be my birthday whilst I was there and visited places I has seen in pictures or on the TV. Before this trip, I hadn't been on an aeroplane, nether did I know what to expect what to do when you go through security. I had all these images of setting off the metal detector as I walked through, I didn't thankfully.

Rome was everything I could have imagined and more. The more we explored, the more I fell in love. We ended up doing some amazing things. To see my original Rome trip blog click here

I loved visiting Rome and I think Rome has a special place in my heart. I have so many memories so I thought I'd share a few.

During a trip to the Colosseum we had a guided tour and she was talking about the gladiators, one specific and told us that he didn't want to fight that day and so he decided to eat a toilet sponge to make himself sick. Unfortunately the gladiator died. My Fiance added... I bet that was a shit way to go... *this was where I told him to shh but had the crowd of tourists in laughter!* This claims to be my Fiances best joke and hasn't come up with a better one since!

I've always wanted to throw a coin in this fountain since I saw the Lizzie Mcguire Movie when she went to Rome. I got to throw a coin in the fountain, day made! Someone on the bottom of the Trevi Fountain is a British penny thrown in by me!
The Sistine Chapel was a highlight. Each painting or part of the ceiling has so much detail in it. There's no chance of even taking a photo as the guards will tell you no photos! Also having a tour of The Vatican as pretty cool, there was so much to learn as well as see. So much history in one building. I never knew that Vatican City is actually a country and is the smallest country in the world!

Tourists with lanyards

This was our first day in Rome, we had decided to do the bus tour of Rome. This was us taking a cheeky selfie. We were so excited to explore the city and going by Bus was one way to do so.

Vatican City to hear Sunday morning Mass as well as seeing the Pope!

The Pope on a screen. This was the best photo I could get, there were so many people and when you tried to take a photo, you just got the top of his head.

This was our selfie on the way to the airport. We had been up early and were shattered. We decided to take the train to the airport which on route discovered our flight had been cancelled. We spent a ove six hours at the airport, trying to find out what was going on. We managed to get booked onto a flight for the next day and got to stay in the Hilton hotel which was decided seven hours later. upon arriving at the Hilton, the staff had no clue that we were checking in and had to wait for the airline to confirm our bookings. This took another hour. Eventually it had all got sorted and we got to have something to eat just before 12am! The next day we spent over 12 hours in the airport with nothing else really to do. There was a really helpful man at Rome Airport that helped us out with boarding passes as well as finding out our information.

I would love to go again and just revisit the whole city.

Have you ever visited Rome? What did you like most about the city?
